Chicken available soon! On May 24, we will be butchering chickens. They will be available fresh that day from 3-6 pm. After that they will be available frozen in the sales room. Please help yourself, but if you want to fill your freezer, please wait until a following butchering date so that everyone can share in the first batch. We will be butchering again on June 7 and three following dates in June and July. We're all craving some chicken again!
Duke's haircut We are looking for someone to give Duke a haircut this year. The last several years we have bartered his cut for $100 worth of product in the sales room. It is a big job, but if you are interested let us know.
Stories from the farm Yesterday morning when I went out to chore it was clear and bright, but cold. As I walked through the pasture to check some cows I noticed frost on the grass. I wondered how much damage it would do to the crops and fruit, but by the time I walked back to the house it was gone. Later in the day, Judy told me that on Friday she had removed the hot caps from four over-achieving tomatoes in the garden. When she checked them on Saturday, the frost had killed three of them but the other was doing great. Nature never ceases to amaze me.

Bridges This week they opened the Haven road so if you are coming from the southeast, resume your normal route. Beginning tomorrow morning, the bridge 1/2 mile west of us will be closed for repair. If you are coming from Hutchinson, the best route is to take Hwy 50 two miles east of the Yoder Road and then three miles south on Mayfield.
Sauerkraut This week Kaydee made some lacto-fermented sauerkraut from the Nourishing Traditions cookbook. Lacto-fermentation is a biological process dating back to Biblical times that increases the nutrition and digestibility of food. It is in the sales room so give it a try.
Lamb available soon In two weeks we will be butchering lamb again. If you are interested in a side of lamb, let us know soon. The price is $3/lb hanging wt. plus $35 processing fee.
Stories from the farm This morning when I went out to chore the sun was coming up, it was calm with dew on the grass and the temperature was in the 50's. A prefect spring morning. As I walked down to get the nurse cows and turn the sheep out of their nightly pen, I was in awe of the beauty and the greatness of our God. As much as man can try he can not replicate the creativity of our Creator.
