Farm Fresh Weekly
Baby calves and milk Thanks for all your name suggestions. They have come in handy since we had nine fresh cows this week. That means by Monday we will have fresh milk in the sales room and soon thereafter yogurt and fresh cream.
Pet food made from beef This week we had a cow that was paralyzed during delivery and was never able to get back up. On Saturday, we butchered the cow and ground the meat for pet food. You will find 2 lb bags of whole beef pet food in the sales room.
April challenge! Kendra-- During the month of April, I am challenging myself to not eat any white flour or sugar. I'm doing this for three reasons: 1) to make myself aware of how much I normally eat, 2) to experiment with healthy sugar substitutes, and 3) to see how much better I feel! It's going great so far and I've discovered that a good way to satiate a sweet tooth is a piece of 100% whole wheat toast with butter and honey. If you'd like to join the challenge or have some encouraging words, let me know!
Judy helping us full time Ken-- Friday was Judy's last day to work full time at the church. She will be greatly missed there, but we are glad to have her at home! She has agreed to work part time at the church until they can replace her. I personally think it will take a multitude of people to do what she was doing. She is a very talented lady.
Stories from the farm Ken-- When I was a child we had more jackrabbits running around than you could count and the challenge was to see how far down the road you could run them since they usually ran straight ahead and didn't dart like a cottontail. After college when we moved back to the farm, there were no jackrabbits. The theory was that they got a disease and all died. This winter there have been two around here, a pair, so who knows how many we will have next year. Oh yes, they still run in a straight line.
Happy Easter to all!
