Apple trees in full bloom When I went to the orchard this week to check on the calves we have grazing there, I peeked at the trees. They were in full bloom and very pretty with lots of potential for a big apple crop. I know they say to never count your apples before they are picked, but it is fun to dream of picking 500-700 bushels this fall.
Wild edible plant specialist Are you or someone you know knowledgeable in wild edible plants? We think this might be an interesting topic for the spring party.
Buckets Mark is in need of 3-5 gallon clean buckets with lids to use for glaze storage. If you have any that are unwanted, drop them off in the sales room. Thanks.
Stories from the farm Kendra and Mark had a friend from British Colombia spend the last two weeks with them at the Inn and here on the farm. She helped plant strawberries, make pottery, make cheese and butter, bake bread and many other things. One day we had to help a heifer give birth and Rachel got to witness the event. As soon as the calf was doing okay, we all left and went back to work. But Rachel just stood there watching in awe.
Another day at lunch, she looked at her plate in amazement as she realized that everything on her plate was grown or made on the farm. The lettuce had just been picked from the garden, the bread was fresh from our ovens, the cheese was made in the barn, the summer sausage came from our cows and the apple sauce from the orchard. She was amazed at how we live and the simplicity of life here.
