Spring has come
This week we had an influx of spring. 3000 strawberry plants arrived, 400 day old chicks were put in the brooder house and a heifer calf was born. All were very welcome but they did put a end to more leisurely winter days.
Help us think of calf names!
You've helped us in the past... are you feeling creative again? This year we are in need of names that start with the letter "K". Names must be five letters or less so that they fit on ear tags.
New production items on the farm
For the last several weeks Daniel has been building equipment that creates strawberry beds, lays down a biodegradable mulch and drip lines and makes transplanting and picking easier. He has done a great job in showing his creativity and design work and I am very proud of him.
We also bartered for two commercial convection ovens. Kendra has been using several residential ovens for baking and has experienced all the frustrations of inaccurate heat sensors causing over and under baking. These ovens will create uniformity in baking and reduce stress on the baker!
Stories from the farm
I have been reading the book "Radical Homemakers" by Shannon Hayes about what really makes us happy. Obviously, it is not more money to purchase more "stuff" but relationships with family and friends, spending time with them and sharing what we have. I have been richly blessed and am very happy. I encourage each of you to evaluate where you are. Life is too short to not live it to the fullest.
