Farm Fresh Weekly
Product supply/demand Thanks to you, our sales for this January are up over last January. This means we can spend more time researching and perfecting new and different products for you to enjoy.
As usual, demand for different products changes from year to year and it is difficult to predict how much of each item we will need. We are currently sold out of yogurt, but expect to have enough frozen milk to supply the need until we start milking. The layer chickens cannot keep up with the demand for eggs, but we have more chickens coming up in late spring. Thanks for your patience while we try and meet demand.
Oprah agrees This past Wednesday, Oprah's segment featured Michael Pollan talking about Food 101. Pollan focused on eating healthy and the benefits of grass-fed meat and milk. Did you know that you were far ahead of most people? You can be a real witness to your friends and neighbors about how you are living a healthier lifestyle.
Family brainstorming session and new products Next weekend David and Haly will be home so as a family, we will spend some time brainstorming new products. We are trying to expand our operation to employ more family members. If you have any suggestions please let us know!
Stories from the farm Ken: Suddenly the other day, egg production dropped by about 15%. I wondered why and tried to think if it was predators or if it was a one day change and maybe I just gathered the eggs earlier that day. But the lower production has continued. Friday, it dawned on me that about two weeks earlier, we had our last really cold spell. It takes about two weeks for a chicken to develop an egg. It only made sense then.
