Baked items

Kendra:  I have been doing a lot of research on ingredients for baked goods and have decided to use all organic ingredients.  This will take the price up slightly but as you all know (seeing that you are JaKo customers), it's worth paying more for better food.  I hope to have 100% Whole Wheat bread-- made from fresh-ground wheat and sweetened with honey-- available in the sales room by the end of the week.

One added benefit of organic products is that it does not include genetically modified organisms (GMOs).  Check out the tips on the Non-GMO shopping guide.

Is there any interest in gluten-free baked goods?  If any of you have a gluten intolerance, let us know and I'll see what I can do.  If anyone has good gluten-free bread recipes, I'd welcome those too.

Until then, watch for our 100% Whole Wheat bread coming soon!  It's fabulous.

Any comments on dishwasher soap?
Kendra:  We have been having trouble with water spots on our glassware... and aren't sure if it's attributed to the homemade dishwasher soap or not.  For those of you who use it, how is it working for you?

Cold weather activities
Ken:  Wow, what a cold front can make you do.  We spent more time choring and one morning I didn't have water in the barn but thankfully I caught it before any pipes broke.  Construction on the barn remodel (for the pottery studio) came to a screeching halt but in the end Mark was glad because he needed to spend time building a web site for his pottery and the two cold days were good incentive.  Daniel went to a horticulture conference, what a good day for that.

Stories from the farm
Ken:  On Wednesday with the threat of cold weather and lots of wind, I moved the chicken house and stock trailer to the north side of the calves' pen to give them protection from the wind.  Thursday morning when I chored I thought that it was bitterly cold but when I got down to the pen the calves were all laying down in the grass and not anywhere near the wind break that I had set up for them.  Just goes to show that they were more acclimated to the weather than I was.

Healthy food for healthy living.
