Rave reviews
We have had rave reviews on our new product Wholesome Delight.  The only question has been "are we supposed to dilute it?" since it is quart of product packaged in a half gallon jug and the jug is only half full. The answer is "no, use it as it is."  If we had used a quart jug it would have cost us more than twice what the half gallon does so we opted to be creative.  If you think we should fill the jug and sell it as a half gallon of product let us know.  Be sure and shake well before using as the apple cider settles out.

Christmas shopping
If you have trouble thinking of just the right gift for someone ... or just want to be creative, a gift of nutritious, healthy food would be perfect.  It just might be the gift that gives them life and starts them on the way to a more healthy lifestyle.

Fresh milk
We will stop milking this week or next, depending on how the cows like the weather.  O.k., how I like the weather.  But really, they are all almost dry and it is getting harder to get them to come to the barn every day.  When we stop milking, the fresh milk and cream will no longer be available as well as the fresh yogurt and kefir soon thereafter.  We will try to keep Wholesome Delight available all winter.

Stories from the farm
What a wonderful time we had with family this week with a lot of good conversations, several walks, lots of wonderful food, and just learning to know some extended family again.  One comment I overheard was "is all you guys do is eat and sit around and drink coffee?"  The person speaking was feeling stuffed.  I must agree that the food was great, too.  Interestingly I do not think the TV was turned on for more than watching a movie one evening.   I am truly blessed.

New product-- see what you think!
The last few weeks I have been mixing kefir and cider in a drink and really liking it.  I started to wonder if I could add other beneficial products to the mix and how it would taste and what it would be like.  So this week we mixed colostrum, apple cider, yogurt, kefir, honey and vanilla together.  Wow, what a drink: high energy, great immune booster, wonderful taste and extremely healthy.  I think it tastes about like eggnog, and if you would add a raw egg and beat it in it would be very similar to eggnog.  It is now available in the sales room called Wholesome Delight, fresh in quart sizes for $4.00.  There is also a bottle labeled 'sample' and cups for you to try before you make a purchase.  We would be really happy if you gave us feedback on how you respond to it and the taste.  I feel that it is better than plain colostrum for bolstering your immune system and keeping you healthy.

Predators
We have been loosing some chickens and wondered what was getting them, so we borrowed a friend's trail cam.  The trail cam is a camera that sportsman use that is activated by movement.  Generally they place it to take a picture of a feeder they set up at night to see the game that is attracted.  We set it up to take a picture of the chicken house at night.  What we found was two very fat raccoons.

Kendra and Mark
Our daughter, Kendra, and her husband, Mark, are in their last week of volunteering in Maui.  (They have been working at a Christian leadership training center.)  The following week Mark's parents will be there to vacation and the week after that they will come back to Kansas.  When they return, they will be the new innkeepers at the Sunflower Bed and Breakfast in Yoder.  Kendra will be looking for other part time work in sales and marketing while Mark wants to establish a pottery studio.  We are excited to have them coming home.

Stories from the farm
This week we celebrate Thanksgiving day and we do have much to be thankful for.  The biggest thing for me is the opportunity to worship and serve our risen Lord Jesus.  We will have several family times this weekend with lots of fellowship and food.  David and Haly (our son and daughter-in-law) will be here along with a bunch of Judy's extended family.  I hope that you, too, are able to celebrate with family.

Warning...
Eating our food may make you a food snob.  We have trouble eating out as the "food" they serve just doesn't taste right.  A customer told us this week that his wife was at a backyard party in Florida with her daughter.  They were grilling hamburgers and gave her one hot off the grill.  She took one bite and that was all she could eat.  They had started eating our beef this year and the burger that she was given just didn't taste right.
So be warned that if you eat our products, the other stuff just might not taste right.

Big thanks
We want to give a big thanks to those people who have helped us find the items we have been in need of.  Reusing and sharing are a big part of our lives.

Stories from the farm
We barter a hunting lease here on our land with a good friend.  He has been spending lots of time sitting in his tree stand waiting for the right buck to come along.  The other morning he saw a bobcat coming toward him so he made noises like a wounded animal and called it to his tree.  After the kitten climbed up the tree part way directly under his tree stand he decided that it was close enough.  He just sat and watched it a while and then made a movement and the kitten was gone.  That is one of the reasons he likes to bow hunt.  Sitting out in his tree stand he sees lots of wildlife.

Our health is directly related to our diet
This week I was visiting with a customer and she was telling me how everyone she works with was getting the flu.  She had not been sick but observed what they were eating compared to what she was eating.  She eats lots of nutrient-dense food and drinks a lot of our milk.  Her coworkers, on the other hand, were devouring the
"empty calorie" products of chips and soda.  Her conclusion was that paying more for quality food is the best investment she ever made.  No sick time, no doctor visits, no pharmaceuticals ... all money saved for more quality food.

Lamb

Fresh lamb will be in the sales room this week along with pet food made from lamb.  This is a new product for us as well.  When we made the lamb pet food, we were skeptical because of the greenish color, but when we offered it to Duke and the cats they thought it was very good.  As one customer said after she fed her cat the pet food made from chicken -- "my cat smiled and now races her to the refrigerator for more!"

Items we need
We are needing a small high pressure washer (1500-2000psi at 2 gpm) and a lawn mower in the 48-60" range that is a zero turn radius style.  We would prefer good used equipment that someone would like to barter for.

Stories from the farm
Saturday morning Judy babysat for our "adopted" grandchildren.  It was beautiful day so she started to rake leaves.  Soon having a large pile, Greta jumped in; but Jude, who is 17 months, wasn't so sure about it.  We played in the leaves, caught ladybugs, buried the cats in leaves, and just generally had a good time.  My conclusion is that all children need a pile of leaves to play in.

How does your environment dictate your health?
On Thursday we received 2 1/4 inches of rain.  The cattle on winter pasture (annuals that we had planted this summer) were all muddy since there wasn't a good sod established, and did not look very happy.  On the other hand, the milk cows and yearling calves were on thickly sodded perennial pasture
They were clean, and other than getting their weekly bath, were very happy.

How does your living and work space affect your health?

Lamb

This week we take 12 lambs to the butcher.  If you would still like to order a side or a whole lamb, let us know the first part of the week.  Sides weigh about 25 lbs and cost $3.00/lb plus $35.00 processing.  The lamb that is not sold by the side will be for sale in the sales room by the end of the week.  We also plan on making pet food from the parts that do not go for human consumption.

Stories from the farm
This summer we were given many kittens after we let the neighbors know that we needed some.  Kind of like zucchini-- once someone knows you want some, you get more than you need.  Anyway, two of them were already tame and we befriended them to the point they are pests sometimes.  Two others stay in the barn and will come out to eat only after you leave.  The others we see only occasionally.  I often see the wild ones out in the pastures hunting to supplement what we feed them.  The two tame ones love to hang around the house for the table scrap now and then.  They too can be good mousers if they want to.  The problem is the "want to."

I continue to be amazed at how much like animals we humans are.  Did we get those tendencies from them or they from us?
