Farm Fresh Weekly Great help Yesterday all the children plus a few friends were here getting the place spruced up for our party tomorrow. This is a beautiful time of year anyway, but we are truly blessed with what we think is a nearly perfect place to live. I hope that you are planning on coming to the party to enjoy it with us.
New product Judy has started making low-sudsing laundry detergent and has some for sale in the sales room. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
Needed If you are coming to the party tomorrow we suggest that you bring a yard blanket or lawn chairs to sit on while eating lunch and visiting. We have a few chairs but have no idea how many to plan on so this would be one way you could help. Thanks.
Stories from the farm This week Judy made laundry detergent and put some in the sales room. We had a friend from Indiana stop by and saw it on the shelf and thought WOW they really have good milk here to be able to keep it at room temperature on the shelf. Then she read the label. It really is a neat product. Pick some up and try it. Healthy food for healthy living. Daniel King and Kenneth King JaKo, Inc. 6003 E. Eales Rd Hutchinson, KS 67501 www.jakoinc.com 620.663.1470

Farm Fresh Weekly Cheeses to sample Oh, boy, do we have some good cheeses for you to sample at our spring party. We have been having a fun time experimenting with different herbs and spices! Bring your taste buds.
Mark & Kendra at Riverfest Mark and Kendra had a booth at Riverfest in Wichita yesterday to sell Mark's pottery. They had a really fun and successful day. Mark will have a sampling of his collection at the spring party if you are interested in looking or buying.

Stories from the farm It is pie time again! If you remember before Kendra's wedding, Kendra and Judy spent a day making pies and freezing them for the reception. This afternoon again, the pair made 14 pies to freeze for David and Haly's Kansas reception in July. Making pies is a family affair-- Kendra and Judy are in the kitchen, and Daniel, Mark, and I sit at the dining room table to talk to them and eat leftover ingredients. Ricotta cheese Daniel has been having fun experimenting with making different cheeses. He really is doing a great job and I am really proud of him. This week he made ricotta and several flavors of jack. Try some and let us know what you think.
Garden planting Last Thursday the garden was almost too wet to till, but since they called for rain Thursday night we worked it anyway and planted sweet corn. Judy also got her tomatoes transplanted that had been growing in a flower bed. Sure enough, that night we received about 2" of rain. We were glad that we had as much planted as we did.
Stories from the farm This past Saturday was neighbor's farm auction that we had helped get ready for. It was supposed to be in March but the blizzard put a stop to that. So on Thursday night when we had 2" of rain I was wondering about this time. On Friday morning when I went over, pretty much the whole area where the sale was supposed to be was underwater. But by Saturday morning there were only small mud puddles and the crowd was large because all the rain made it impossible to work in the field. It was a good sale with great weather.

Farm Fresh Weekly Spring growth With rain and warm weather this Spring, the grass is really growing. This makes happy cows and sheep. Milk production is really up this spring so we have enough for you to tell your friends about us. If you want to bring them out, you can show them around and introduce them to the sales room and how it works. Of course, we would be happy to meet them if we are here. If you can't bring them, have them call before they come so that we can be sure to meet them.
Cream Cheese We made a batch of cream cheese this week and think that it is quite delightful. We will try and keep it in stock in the dairy case in the sales room. Be sure to look around for other new products.
Chicks We received 200 layer chicks this week. Like all babies they are very cute. By the time the party comes, they will still be in the brooder house for the children to look at. It also means that in about 5 months we will have lots more eggs.
Party reminder Don't forget, we are having a spring party at the farm for all of our customers on Monday (Memorial Day), May 25. Be sure to plan on coming. We will be serving lunch for a donation.
Stories from the farm The other day when I was out choring I picked up the lid to a water riser that was lying on the ground to put it back over the riser after I disconnected the hose. Under the cover was a field mouse nest made entirely out of wool. The sheep had been using that water so were shedding there. I had to think. If I was a field mouse, what more could I want then a nest made from wool protected from the rain. It was quite soft.
