Farm Fresh Weekly

Thanks for the calf names!
We received lots of "J" names from you all this week.  Thanks for all the input!  We appreciate the customer interaction, and when baby calves start being born this spring, keep your eyes out for babies with names you might recognize...

Restocking sales room
Just a reminder that we do our best to keep the sales room stocked Monday through Saturday.  If you choose to come on Sunday, please know that this is our day of rest and there is no guarantee that the sales room will be fully stocked.

Tough economic times
If you have been a loyal customer in the past and are now facing economic challenges, please talk to us before shopping elsewhere.  Mutual support is very important to us.

Seeking utility room fixtures
Daniel is remodeling his utility room and is in need of an in-counter stainless steel single sink, a high rise kitchen faucet, 7-8' of bottom kitchen cabinets with top and top cabinets.  If you have the likes of these and want to get rid of or sell them, let us know.  Thanks.

Stories from the farm
For the last several weeks something has been killing and eating a hen about every night.  We had wracked our brains trying to figure out what was happening.  We finally decided that we had a killer chicken, but could never find out which one.  After much observance and spending parts of several nights in the hen house we discovered the problem.  Several weeks ago, in our effort to keep the eggs cleaner by not letting the hens roost at night in the nesting boxes, we had made a movable curtain that would go up and down in front of the boxes thus opening or closing them.  In the evening after we had gathered the eggs we would pull the curtain up, blocking the entrance to the boxes, and via a rope fasten it to the door that the chickens use.  This door is on a motor opening in the morning and closing after dark.  The idea was that as the door automatically opened in the morning it would drop the curtain giving access to the nests.  What we discovered was actually happening was that curtain was heavy enough that during the course of the night it would pull the door open.  This allowed predators entry and they were the ones killing our chickens.

Healthy food for healthy living.
