Pullet eggs no longer available
As our chickens grow up, they no longer produce pullet (little) eggs.  Therefore, all of the eggs in the sales room from now on will be regular, large eggs.  Don't be surprised if you get a double-yolker in your dozen-- a few of our chickens are consistently ambitious.

Our products are guaranteed!
As a reminder, we guarantee your complete satisfaction with all of our products.  If you ever purchase anything from us that you feel is not up to our usual quality, please let us know and we will replace it.

Suggestions for new products
Some of our best selling items recently have come from customer suggestions (ie. boneless skinless chicken breasts, chicken soup stock, etc.).  We're always open to suggestions!  Let us know if you have a great idea you think we should try.

Stories from the farm
This past week, we've had an explosion of toads on the farm.  That's really important to us (even though they're annoying in the sales room), because it means we have a healthy ecosystem that supports small creatures.  The news has been highlighting the decreased population of honey bees, song birds, and small creatures, but we are experiencing the opposite on our farm. This reminds us that not only is our food healthy for our customers, but that our farm is also a healthy habitat for lots of creatures!

Fresh Beef!
This week, we will bring  home our first beef that we had butchered this season.  This will replenish our stock in the sales room, so if you discovered that we were out of some cuts, try us again.

Buying club deliveries this week
This is the week we make deliveries to the Wichita buying clubs.  If you are a part of those groups, be sure to get your order in by Tuesday noon.

Egg cartoons and plastic bags
With all the eggs we have been getting, we are running low on cartoons.  If you have egg cartons you want to get rid of (along with plastic shopping bags) we would be happy to recycle them.

Chicken stock
We tried canning chicken stock made from the recipe in Nourishing Traditions.  All went well until about 10 days later when the lids started popping off.  The broth was quite spoiled!  After reading the recipe again, we noticed that it said to freeze the stock for future use; so now we have frozen chicken stock in the chicken freezer.

Computer work
This summer David has been building a new data base for us, and today's email has been sent through that.  We are hoping to remove the second copy that some of you have been getting.

Stories from the farm
It has been interesting to see how different grasses respond to all the water we've had this spring.  The perennial grasses did pretty well except where water stood for 2+ weeks.  We had planted some sudan and millet, both of which are annuals in areas where we were getting ready to reseed perennial grasses.  The sudan is coming up even where water stood for 2 weeks, but the millet (which is on higher ground) drowned.

Beef quality
This week, I received an email from one of our customers:  "What a relief it is to not have to worry about the recent recall of meat! We are so thrilled that we can purchase our meat locally - and it's tastier and healthier!!"  Thanks for supporting our farm!

Boxed beef
In response to a request by one of our customers, we are now offering 50 lb. boxes of beef.  Each box will contain roughly 50% ground beef, 20% roasts, 20% steaks, and 10% other cuts.  A box of beef will cost $250, equivalent to $5.00/lb.  This is a 15% discount over buying individual cuts of beef.

These boxes will not be stocked in the sales room, so contact us before making a visit to the farm and we will have them ready for you!

Chicken butchering
Monday will be the next chicken butchering.  If you want fresh chicken, come after 3:00 pm.  Call or email to pre-order boneless, skinless chicken breasts.

Don't you need some eggs?
We have plenty of eggs, so next time you're out, pick some up for your friends and neighbors!  They will enjoy the quality.  The pullet eggs are getting larger every day, and will soon be regular eggs, so the $1.50 price is an exceptional buy right now.

Stories from the farm
They say that lightening never strikes the same place twice...  we beg to differ.  This week, we were struck by lightening again, taking out the same transformers that were destroyed three weeks ago.  Our hired man was working in the shop when it happened and saw the ball of fire that ensued.  His pacemaker went crazy, and he had to go home to change pants.  Duke was sleeping in the shop as well, and it took him 24 hours to return to normal.  Ah, well... they say lightening never strikes the same place three times.

Extracurricular activities
This week we are all involved in Vacation Bible School at church. It is such a joy to work with young children make the Bible stories come to life!

New products available in the sales room
Boneless, skinless chicken breasts: These are individually frozen and packaged in bags of six. To guarantee that you'll get some, pre-order them for the next butchering.
Ice cream: We have had this in the past and have recently begun to make it again. It has the consistency of homemade ice cream.
Garden produce: This is becoming more available as our garden matures. Watch for in-season products!
Monday butchering
Our next butchering will be tomorrow. If you want fresh chicken, come after 3:00 pm. Call or email to pre-order boneless, skinless chicken breasts.
Eggs, eggs, and more eggs
Daniel's chickens are producing eggs in full force! On average, he gathers 15-20 dozen eggs per day. Don't forget to pick up a dozen or two next time you're here, and tell your friends!
Stories from the farm
Two of Daniel's laying hens are quite social birds. No matter how far he moves the layer house from the buildings, the same two hens will come back to the buildings. Daniel will take them back down, and a few hours later, they'll be pecking around the barn again. Periodically, Daniel will find them sitting on a nest of eggs in one of the open sheds. He affectionately calls them his "homing chickens."
