**Farm Fresh Bi-Weekly** **Christmas Edition** Christmas thoughts This morning in church, Pastor Jonathan shared lessons from the shepherds in the Christmas story. Jonathan pointed out that when we think of the birth of Jesus, we think of a peaceful birth in a cozy stable with sweet-smelling straw, and a romantic encounter with shepherds and angels on a hillside. In reality, shepherds in that time period were considered "unclean." They were such social outcasts that they weren't allowed to enter holy buildings or associate with normal people. And yet, these outcasts were the ones God chose to tell first about the birth of His Son. Jonathan then stated that if God used shepherds, than no problem that we have, no failure that we've experienced, no sin that we regret, can keep Him from using us. All I need to do is be available to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. This season, I am blessed with a wonderful family, good health, a clear conscience, and a productive farm. I count it a real blessing to have all of you as customers and as friends. Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! --Ken Daniel King and Kenneth King JaKo, Inc. **Farm Fresh Weekly** A dramatic increase in this year's sales As we reach year-end, we have discovered that our product sales this year increased about 50% from last year. We knew that they were up, but the amount took us by surprise! This also causes us to think about how to meet demand next year if we have a similar increase. Thankfully, Daniel will be doing more and David will be home from college for the summer. Thanks to YOU, our loyal customer, for helping sales grow! Promote your health-related business Several customers have asked us to display their business cards in the sales room. As we consider the pros and cons of this request, we recognize that the success of our business relies on word-of-mouth publicity, and we would like to help our customers grow their businesses in the same way. Therefore, we will provide a shelf in the sales room where customers may promote their healthy-living endeavors for others to see. Feel free to browse this shelf to see how fellow customers are creating a living! Stories from the farm Back when we had a much more conventional farm and the children were small, we had a tractor with a cab on it. There was a 12" gap between the driver's seat and the back window, so I cut a board to fit and put a blanket and pillow on it. The children spent many hours there with Dad, watching, learning, dreaming and sleeping. It was like having eyes in the back of my head. If anything happened behind, I was very soon made aware of it. **Farm Fresh Weekly** Christmas cheer cheerfully given The Christian Soup Ministry in Hutchinson will receive 85 pounds of sliced ham this week, which reflects 10% of sales from Nov. 15-Dec.1. Thanks to all of you -- our loyal customers -- for taking us up on the challenge! Prices We have discovered that some of the packages of meat that were recently processed, have been miss priced and miss weighed. When you select a package of meat, double check the label to make sure that the weight and price seems reasonable. We do not want you to get shortchanged. If you think that there is a mistake that you can not take care of put the package in the freezer of the milk frig and let us a note on your ticket. Thanks Eggs Our egg production has been on the decline for the last few weeks, due to the weather getting colder and the days shorter. Daniel has spent a lot of time on the phone trying to find a source for eggs that meet our criteria; but with no success. The good news is getting out about healthy eating! We will put the available eggs in the sales room, but cannot guarantee there will be eggs when you need them.. Daniel took action and ordered 300 layer chicks which will come this week. Hopefully we can supply your egg needs next year. Milk We plan to stop milking for this year on Dec. 8, and will put approx. 60 gallons of fresh milk in the sales room. After it is gone, it will be frozen milk for the rest of the winter. We have also been freezing plain and vanilla yogurt, so that will be available during the winter as well. Firewood Judy's father used to say that firewood warmed you twice -- once when you cut it, and again when you burned it. We have been warmed once and are now offering it to you to also be warmed. Our supply of cut and split mulberry is well seasoned, and ready to crackle in your stove. If you are interested in firewood, let us know. Stories from the farm One winter when Daniel was in high school, he asked me what he could do to keep from getting bored. I handed him the chain saw and told him he could cut firewood.. I didn't pay much attention that year, although I did think his chains needed sharpening quite often. Imagine my surprise the next year, when we borrowed a splitter and started splitting the wood. We worked and worked, and when we were finished we calculated that if we were the only ones to burn the wood, it would last about 20 years! At the time, we stacked the wood inside a building we were not using, which is now the brooder house where we start our baby chicks.. As our broiler production keeps expanding, it's becoming imperative to move the firewood so we can use the entire building for our chicken production. Healthy food for healthy living.
