Buying clubs being formed
We have had several people express interest in organizing buying clubs:

Dana Solomon (east Wichita)--dndsolomon@hotmail.com
Lexie Joseph (El Dorado)--lexmjo@yahoo.com
Linda Dietz (Derby)--lindadhd@sbcglobal.net

Contact these individuals if you'd like to join their buying club. As a reminder, buying clubs place a collective order of $1000, which will be delivered to the contact person. Buying club orders will be charged an additional 10% fee, plus mileage one way (divided among all buying club members).

Chest freezers needed
We are looking for several chest freezers to help us facilitate product delivery to buying club locations. If you have any for sale or know of some that are available, please let us know.

Last chance for fresh chicken
Our last butchering of the season will be Friday, August 4. If you'd like to purchase fresh chicken, come to the farm Friday after 4:00pm or Saturday.

Come meet our new dog!
Yesterday, a new dog joined our family. He is part Mastiff, part St. Bernard, and his name is "Duke." Although he is very large, he's very gentle and loves to be around children. Give him a pat on the head and you'll have a new friend.

New "Cream of the Crop" members
Congratulations to 3 new members who joined "Cream of the Crop" club this week!

(Become a "Cream of the Crop" club member by purchasing $1,000 or more in merchandise over a 12-month period. "Cream of the Crop" club members receive advance notice of new products, products in high demand or short supply, and other special notices.)

Think about starting a buying club!
Upon the request of several customers, we are now offering the option to create
a buying club.  What's a buying club?  Here is what it's all about:
--You organize a group of people from your area who all want to place an order
--The collective order must total $1,000 or greater
--We will deliver the order to your chosen location, where your group will meet
to pick up their product
--We will deliver on a day that is convenient for both you and us, and will be
available for an hour to dispense product and talk to customers
--The cost?  We will add a 10% charge to your order, plus $1 per mile one
way for delivery (divided equally among customers).

Our first buying club has been formed in Wichita, and the customers there really
appreciate it!

If you plan to organize a buying club, we will send you an electronic sales
ticket that you can disperse to your group members to collect their orders.
When everyone has placed their order, send the individual orders to us.  We
will arrange a delivery date with you and bring the orders to your neighborhood.
It's that easy!  If you organize a buying club, we will reward you with a
free turkey upon the first delivery.

As a side note:  We will take new customers via a buying club, but we would
encourage them to make a visit to the farm to see our operation and find out
more about us.

Last chicken butchering of the season
While Daniel dances a little jig, let us inform you that the last chicken
butchering of the summer will be August 5.  This is the last time that
fresh chicken will be available.  If you want some fresh chicken, come out
to the farm after 4:00pm on that day.  If you want a large order, please
let us know via email.

Place your order for sides of pork and lamb
In a few weeks, we will begin sending lambs and pigs to be butchered.
Place your order soon to reserve your side!
A side of lamb generally weighs 30 lbs.  A side of pork is roughly
65 lbs.

Clarification on dated products
Several customers have asked about the date on our products (like milk).  Is this the date it was produced, or the date it expires, like in stores?  The first answer is correct.  We date each item on the day it was produced.  Hopefully this will clear up the confusion.

Customers have also asked us how long the milk stays fresh before it starts to sour.  Most customers we ask say that the milk stays fresh for two to three weeks.  When it does turn sour, you can still cook or bake with it.

Keep in mind that milk you would purchase in the grocery store is at least four days old.  If you purchase organic milk in health food stores, it's probably much older than that.

Out of town next weekend
We will be out of town next weekend at another family reunion.  One of our customers will be maintaining the farm and stocking the sales room while we are gone.  In addition, there will be no Farm Fresh Weekly next week.

Sides of lamb and soon available
Within another month, we will have sides of lamb available for purchase.  Place your order soon to reserve your side!

An old farm lantern
At a family reunion this past weekend, we acquired an old lantern that was used to milk cows in the part of our barn now used for the sales room. You'll find this lantern hanging on the wall on display in the sales room. We were reminded at the reunion how unique it is that we are maintaining the family farm and selling quality products direct to the customer.

Thanks to our customers who helped us butcher!
This morning, several customers helped us butcher 400+ chickens. We really appreciated the help, and I think they were amazed to be involved in the process from start to finish.

Nutrition cures major illnesses
"A high-fat, cholesterol-rich diet is the cause of heart disease. Or so the medical establishment has maintained for more than 50 years. But is it true? Not according to the British medical bulletin "What Doctors Don't Tell You," which dedicates a cover story to the idea that heart disease is caused by something entirely different: a lack of vitamin C." (I Love Orange Juice, Ode Magazine, July/August 2006)

Find this and other interesting articles about curing major illnesses with nutrition in the latest issue of Ode magazine, located in the sales room.
