You will now find chicken wings in the sales room priced at $2.50/lb. Wings make a popular addition to any party!

Try this one-- turkey stir fry
Today noon, we had turkey stir fry over rice for lunch made with canned turkey from the sales room. It was exceptional.

Do Daniel a favor...
We've noticed that some customers pick up product and leave money in the jar without filling out a sales ticket. Please remember to record your purchases on a ticket every time you make a purchase, no matter how small. Here's the reason why: The sales from some products go to Ken, and the sales from other products go to Daniel. If we don't know what you purchased, the money gets defaulted to Ken. So please, help us out...

Next chicken butchering Tuesday, July 4
If you want to help us celebrate, we start butchering at 7:30am. If you'd like to have your own celebration, come after 4:00pm to pick up fresh chicken to throw on the grill.

FFW late next week
Your Farm Fresh Weekly crew will all be out of town next weekend, so we will either send one out late, or not send it out at all (depending on pertinent information). It'll be a surprise.

Linda's journal: three days on the farm
Linda Dietz, one of our customers, recently spent three days on our farm to experience daily life as we know it. Her observations and pictures are recorded in a newsletter she writes, called "Traditional Foods & Sustainable Nutrition." There are extra copies on the shelves in the sales room. Help yourself if you're interested.

Chore person needed
We will be out of town from July 14-16 and are looking for someone to take care of the farm for us. Duties would include milking the cows and feeding pigs and chickens, about four hours every morning. If you have experience on the farm and are interested in doing this, please let us know.

Farm highlights this week
--We buried more water line this week so we can re-design our paddocks to better utilize the irrigation system
--Yogurt sales have drastically increased
--Yesterday, we butchered another batch of 360 chickens, our third butchering of the summer
--Daniel helped the neighbors with wheat harvest
--We received 0.9" of rain Friday night

Smoked hams and turkeys for July 4
Everyone loves a good cookout on July 4th.  To make this year's celebration more fun and relaxing, purchase a ham or turkey from us and we will cook and smoke it for free.  We must have your order by June 25.

Beef price comparison
Do you purchase a lot of beef cuts?  This week, we priced out the difference of buying a side of beef versus buying the equivalent amount of beef cuts out of the sales room.  The side we priced was 384 lbs hanging weight.  To purchase this amount of beef cuts in the sales room would cost $1262.23.  To purchase this side, plus processing, would cost $1047.02, a savings of over $200.  That amount of savings, over two-year's time, would pay for a large chest freezer.

Keep in mind, we're not telling you this because it benefits us (actually, we make less money).  We just wanted you to be informed of your options when purchasing large quantities of beef.

An interesting article for you
In the latest issue of The Stockman Grass Farmer, Allan Nation wrote an editorial that I thought you might enjoy.  He talked about the the US government's paranoia around bird flu and how this might affect small family farms.  The article is attached if you would like to read it.

Carpooling
Many customers have expressed interest in knowing other customers in their area with whom they could carpool to our farm.  If you would like your name, address, and phone number given out to other customers, please reply promptly to this email.  We will only release your name with your permission.

Kefir grains
Linda Deitz and Brenda Blowers, two of our customers, went to a raw-milk conference in Norfolk, Nebraska last week.  They came home with a small bag of kefir grains, which are available to whomever wants them.  They are in the glass door refrigerator beside the cheese, along with directions for use. 

Yogurt options
We are now offering plain and vanilla yogurt in the sales room.  If you have flavor suggestions, please let us know! 

An interesting tidbit about our best customer
Our best customer (who, last year, purchased over $3500 in product) is a single guy in his mid 40s.  He is a salesman of concrete plants and travels very extensively and knows many people.  He eats at home very seldom, but has discovered the power of giving our products to both potential clients as incentives and to past clients as thank-you gifts.  He passes out milk, butter, beef, lamb, chicken... whatever he has in the ice chests in the back of his truck.  It helps his business, and helps ours as well.  Thanks for helping us spread the word about healthy food.
